Building a lead capture landing page is one of the most important steps in your marketing funnel. It serves as the entry point into your funnel and without one, you’re losing out on leads and customers.

Unfortunately, creating your lead capture landing page isn’t just a matter of throwing up a form on a page and hoping it works. You need to follow proven conversion-based steps.

In this episode of the Smart Time Online podcast, I reveal the 9 steps to building a profitable lead capture landing page.

In order, they are:

  1. Define your target market.
  2. Define a laser-focused, single conversion goal.
  3. Craft a conversion-centered design.
  4. Define what information you should collect in your opt-in fields.
  5. Write a compelling headline that centers around the words, “how-to” and matches any ads you have that link to your landing page.
  6. Establish trust elements, like social shares or testimonials
  7. Write a short paragraph that extends your headline and serves as an introduction to your bullet points.
  8. Write 3 to 5 bullet points that outline the benefits of what you’re giving away.
  9. Write a great call to action.

  • When writing your headline, make sure your PPC ad headlines match. This matters not only for user friction-purposes, but also with Google quality score.
  • Write just enough copy to compel visitors to sign up to your list.
  • Make sure you use design elements that are proven to boost conversions. I review this in the episode.
  • Collect information as needed to satisfy your lead capture goals. The less information collected, the higher conversions will be.
  • Use a headline from the templates below. Test and improve them as time goes on.
  • When creating your “submit” button, make sure to state exactly what will happen in the text on your button. Never use the words “submit”, but rather something like, “Send me my free gift!” or “Sign me up for the free webinar!”
